Hi! I’m Tara Gnewikow, a journalist based in Sacramento, California.
I have experience in reporting, editing, graphics and data visualization.
On the side I like to read and draw. My childhood dream was to make comics for newspapers.
What have I been up to?
Currently, I am a digital producer for POLITICO. I work closely with editors and reporters to copy edit and produce stories. I have also worked with POLITICO’s data and graphics team to create data visualizations.
From December 2021 to May 2022, I served as a reporter covering the South Placer County area in California for Gold Country Media. I regularly took photos, made graphics and produced five or more stories weekly for the Placer Herald, Roseville Press Tribune, Loomis News and Lincoln News Messenger.
From March to June 2021, I worked as a temporary interactive producer for CapRadio in Sacramento, where I collaborated with reporters to create data visualizations for articles and update charts with daily COVID-19 data. I also formatted transcripts for podcasts.
I served as a managing editor for The State Hornet, Sacramento State University’s student-run publication, during spring 2021. Prior to that, I worked as a copy editor and an arts & entertainment reporter starting spring 2020. I graduated from Sacramento State with a bachelor’s degree in journalism in May 2021.
